Fine Art—Seeing Beyond the Ordinary
Painting with Light and Motion in Camera
After more than 30 years behind the camera, much of it spent documenting real moments as a photojournalist, I found myself drawn to a different way of seeing.
While photojournalism taught me to capture the world as it is, fine art photography allows me to explore how it feels. Using techniques such as intentional camera movement (ICM), panning, long exposures, and multiple exposures, I create images in camera that transform familiar landscapes into something more interpretive and painterly.
I love the freedom these techniques provide. A quiet forest becomes a tapestry of color and texture. A sunset over the ocean becomes a wash of light and motion. What begins as a photograph evolves into something that feels more like a memory, emotion, or impression of a place rather than a literal record of it.
My hope is that these photographs encourage you to slow down, look differently, and see beyond the ordinary.
Every image in this gallery was created in camera using intentional camera movement and other creative techniques. The artistic effect is captured at the moment the shutter is released, not created later in Photoshop or through artificial intelligence.
Fine Art—Created in Camera
Photography doesn't always have to document what we see—it can also express what we feel.
For more than 30 years, much of my photography has focused on people—their stories, relationships, and the moments that connect them. Through family portraits and photojournalism, I've spent my career looking for human connection.
This work is different.
For the first time, I'm creating photographs that rarely include people at all. Instead, I'm capturing the way I experience the world around me through light, color, movement, and emotion. These images are less about documenting a scene and more about interpreting it.
Every image in this gallery was created with a single click of the shutter. They are not composites, multiple exposures, AI-generated artwork, or Photoshop creations. Instead, each photograph is the result of intentional camera movement or panning techniques and my interpretation of the scene at that moment.
Creating these photographs allows me to slow down, experiment, and see familiar places in new ways. I hope they encourage you to pause, look a little longer, and discover something different with each viewing.
I hope you've enjoyed exploring this collection and found inspiration in seeing the world through a different lens.
Many of the pieces in this gallery are available as fine art prints for your home or office. If you're interested in purchasing a print or learning more about available sizes and options, I'd love to hear from you.
