I recommend booking your session about 4–6 weeks before your child’s first birthday if you’d like to have the images ready to share for their big day.
If you’re planning a birthday party and want your little one’s very first taste of cake to happen there, you can also schedule your session for about a week after the celebration.
Either way, we’ll capture this sweet milestone at just the right time.

Absolutely—these sessions are a wonderful way to capture your whole family together. If you’d like to include parents, siblings, or pets, I recommend booking a full one-hour session so we have plenty of time for everyone.
We’ll begin with family portraits first, while everyone is clean and relaxed, and then finish with the cake smash—because things can get a little (and wonderfully) messy by the end!

Yes—clients provide their own cake so it can perfectly match your birthday theme and ensure it’s made with ingredients that are safe for your child, especially if there are any food allergies.
For the best results, I recommend a simple buttercream cake in lighter colors or soft tones, as these tend to photograph beautifully. Cakes with whipped frosting or fondant can work as well, but buttercream is usually the easiest for little hands to smash and creates the most fun (and photogenic!) mess.

Most cake smash sessions take place in my studio, where I have a variety of themed backdrops to choose from.
I also offer outdoor sessions at local parks, as well as sessions at your home or in your yard for a more personalized setting.

I recommend choosing an outfit that complements your cake and overall theme—simple pieces, soft colors, or classic styles tend to photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your child.
Many parents bring a special outfit for portraits first, and then a second outfit (or just a diaper cover, bloomers, or overalls) for the cake smash portion. Since things can get messy, having a backup outfit is always a great idea.
And don’t forget a towel and a change of clothes for the ride home!

That’s absolutely an option! Not every child loves cake, and there are so many fun and creative ways to celebrate this milestone without it.
We can customize your session with something that fits your child’s personality—think fruit (like watermelon), donuts, pancakes, or even a favorite snack. I even had a client do a spaghetti and meatball theme, which was both adorable and memorable!
You can also keep it simple with a clean, classic portrait session that focuses more on your child and less on the mess.
The goal is to create a session that feels true to your family and celebrates your little one in a way that’s meaningful to you.

Your images will be ready to view in a private online gallery approximately 14–17 days after your session. From there, you’ll be able to select your favorites and place your order.
