Children Outdoors—The Story of Childhood
-
I recommend booking your outdoor photography session at least 2–4 weeks in advance, especially during the busy spring and summer seasons. Fall is my most popular time of year for outdoor portraits, and many families book 6–8 weeks in advance to secure their preferred date. If you need portraits for holiday cards, graduation announcements, a special occasion, or before a child heads off to college, it's best to schedule your session 4–6 weeks in advance to allow time for viewing your gallery, selecting your favorites, and receiving your finished images and portraits.
-
I recommend choosing clothing that is comfortable, coordinates well, and reflects your family's personality. Soft, complementary colors and subtle patterns tend to photograph beautifully outdoors and help keep the focus on your child and family rather than the clothing. Outfits don't need to match exactly, but they should coordinate with one another and with the season and location of your session.
Be sure to dress your children appropriately for the weather. On cooler days, layers such as sweaters, vests, and light jackets can add both warmth and visual interest to your portraits. During warmer weather, lightweight clothing and short sleeves are often the most comfortable choice. Most importantly, choose clothing that allows children to move, play, and feel comfortable throughout the session.
Don't forget about shoes. Children's shoes are often visible in outdoor portraits, so I recommend choosing footwear that coordinates with their outfit and the overall look of your session. Shoes should fit properly and be comfortable, especially if your child will be walking, running, or exploring during the session. Bright athletic sneakers, worn shoes, or footwear with large logos can sometimes be distracting in photographs, so it's worth planning those details ahead of time.
Once your session is booked, I'll be happy to offer clothing suggestions and guidance to help you select outfits that photograph well and create beautiful, timeless images.
-
Absolutely! Parents, siblings, and even well-behaved pets are welcome to be part of your studio portrait session. Including the people (and pets) who are an important part of your child's life often creates some of the most meaningful and memorable portraits.
Whether you'd like individual portraits, sibling images, family portraits, or a combination of all three, I'll create a session that reflects your family. Due to the limited space in the studio, sessions are limited to a maximum of six family members, not including pets.
-
If it rains on the day of your session, we'll simply reschedule for another day that works well for both of our schedules. The comfort and safety of your child are always my top priority. If the weather is unusually hot, cold, or otherwise uncomfortable for young children, I may also recommend rescheduling so we can create the best possible experience and capture natural, happy expressions. My goal is for everyone to enjoy the session and for us to create beautiful portraits in comfortable conditions.
-
Please contact me as soon as possible if your child is feeling unwell and we will reschedule your session. Children who aren't feeling their best are often tired, uncomfortable, or less interested in being photographed, which can make it difficult to capture the happy, natural expressions parents love.
Rescheduling allows me to photograph your child when they're feeling healthy, energetic, and more like themselves.
It also helps protect the health of everyone involved, including other families I may be photographing and myself. My goal is for your session to be an enjoyable experience and for us to create the very best portraits possible. -
Your images will be ready to view in a private online gallery approximately 14–17 days after your session. From there, you’ll be able to select your favorites and place your order.
