On Sunday, March 1st, 2026, I experienced one of the most meaningful moments of my career.

At the Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts (PPAM) Evolve Convention, I was honored to receive the Photographic Excellence Award – Photographer of the Year for my case of six highest-scoring images in this year’s state competition.

As a Framingham resident and the owner of a portrait studio located at 730 Boston Post Road in Sudbury, MA, this recognition feels especially meaningful. My work is rooted right here in the MetroWest community — photographing newborns, children, families, seniors portraits, and sports action images throughout Sudbury, Framingham, and surrounding towns.

This award is not based on a single image. Jurors review the top ten cases and select the photographer whose body of work demonstrates the strongest combination of impact, variety, storytelling, and technical excellence. Knowing my work was selected in that way makes this honor deeply humbling.

In addition to Photographer of the Year, I also received:

• Court of Honor Award – Family Portrait
• Highest Scoring Certified Professional Photographer Award – Family Portrait
• Specialty Award in Illustrative-Reportage – Sports Image
• Judge’s Choice Award – Landscape Image

Each image reflects a different part of how I see — the connection within families, the personality of children, the determination of athletes, and the quiet beauty found in everyday moments.

Why I Enter Image Competition

People often ask why I continue to enter image competition.

It’s not just for the accolades — although I won’t pretend they aren’t an ego boost.

Competition pushes me to grow. It challenges my lighting, composition, storytelling, and technical precision. My work is evaluated using the 12 Elements of a Merit Image — the same standard applied nationally through the Professional Photographers of America.

That growth doesn’t stay on a competition screen.

It carries into every newborn session, every children’s portrait, every family session, and every senior or sports event I photograph in Sudbury, Framingham, and the MetroWest Boston area.

When I challenge myself to create stronger, more intentional images for competition, my clients benefit. Each year I strive to see better, compose better, light better — and deliver portraits that are more meaningful and more timeless.

Awards are an honor.

But what matters most is the trust families place in me to document their milestones — from newborn days to high school graduation and beyond.

If I’ve photographed your family (or will soon 😉), you can officially say you were photographed by the Photographer of the Year.

Here a few other of my awarding images from 2025 image competitions…can’t share all of the ones from this year yet as they be going on to other image competitions this year.
